Lessons & Carols
Sunday, Dec 17th at 10:00a

We will be gathering together as one church family in a single service on December 17th at 10:00am, celebrating the season of advent with music and worship. We will continue to meet in a single 10:00am morning worship service on December 24th and 31st, with two evening services (5p & 7p) on Christmas Eve Dec 24th. We'll resume our normal 8:30am and 10:00am services on January 7th, 2018.

Community Chorus of Redlands
Friday, December 8th at 8:00p

The Community Chorus of Redlands, a choral ensemble of 70 voices directed by Jeffrey H. Rickard, will present A Concert of Anthems, Readings, and Carols for the Christmas season at our church on Friday, December 8th beginning at 8:00pm.

This program will also be repeated at Faith Lutheran Church, 12449 California St, Yucaipa, on Saturday, December 9th at 4:00pm and at St. Rita Catholic Church, 321 North Baldwin, Sierra Madre on Sunday, December 10th at 4:00pm.

A wide variety of sacred Christmas anthems and carols will be offered including works by Alan Bullard, Rene Clausen, Craig Courtney, Howard Helvey, Norman Luboff, Felix Mendelssohn, K. Lee Scott, Z. Randall Stroope, John Rutter, Mack Wilberg, and Mr. Rickard. As in the past, several traditional carols will be sung by audience and choir, accompanied by a Chamber Ensemble of Strings, Winds, Harp, Piano and Organ.

Readings from several sacred and secular sources will be read by Patrick Anderson and Mary Beth Richardson.

Ensemble XXI, an ensemble of 30 voices, will join this presentation and offer unaccompanied carols by English and American composers.

This presensation – 90 minutes in length - is free of charge, although a free-will offering will be received in support of the participating ensembles. Hope you can join us!

Special Meeting Dec 17th
On December 17th at 11:15a in the Sanctuary; the Church Council has called a Special Meeting of the Congregation for the purpose of considering matters that relate to our church organization structure. The Council will present edits to the Constitution and the Board of Directors will recommend edits to the Bylaws.

Women’s Book Club
Our holiday book is The Christmas Shoes by Donna VanLiere. It’s the story of a serendipitous meeting between a man losing his family because of his focus on professional achievement and material rewards and an 8-year-old boy whose mother is dying of cancer. Our next meeting is January 7th at 11:15 in the library.

Stained Glass Window Pledge Update
This December will be the last month of our five-year pledge program. We are happy to report that all the windows are finished and paid for; the only thing remaining is to repair the doors at Olive and Cajon, and we have enough funding to complete them. Those giving $5000 or more will have their names on a plaque by the Cajon Street doors. The more one gives, the larger the name. We are working on the plaque and it should go into production in February. Congratulations! The Stained Glass Window Committee is humbled by your dedication to our church.

Congregational Christmas Card
Christmas Greetings! This year instead of buying cards and mailing them to people in our congregation, you can donate to Mexican Christian Children’s Aid and sign our large greeting card in the patio after church during the month of December. MCCA purchases and transports needed supplies to orphanages in Mexico once a month; let’s continue the tradition of our support to them this December. A mission committee member will be on the patio after church to receive your donation. Please make checks payable to First Congregational Church. Thank you for your generous gifts this season.
